The Scotland installation is an interactive space designed for Kelvinside Academy in Glasgow, Scotland. Drawing from Walt Whitman’s poem As I Ebb’d with the Ocean of Life, the installation provokes a sense of longing amidst a field of uncertainties. The overall experience immerses participants in a path of ferns that sway at the lighting touch. Upon reaching the central clearing, lights embrace them in a warm and inviting glow, creating an intimate nook for students of Kelvinside to come together around a hearth.
Through this shared experience, we hope to provide a space in which students can feel momentarily distant and relaxed from everyday pressure and stress. A place for them to convene and interact with each other, nesting inside an interesting new environment.
The project is a culmination of a collaborative joint effort spanning two whole months. It consists of four major components: The heart, fern inspired leaves, self-righting bases for the leaves and for the diffuser lights. All of the parts are custom fabricated using a laser cutter, 3D printer, and silicone and concrete casting.
